All of the logs we use in our "Minnesota" Log Bed are peeled with a German peeler. This machine gives the logs a hand peeled draw knife look. The cracks or "checks" you see in our furniture is a natural and unavoidable characteristic of cedar. These cracks are caused by the natural drying process, and does not effect the structural stability our quality of the product. To preserve the natural beauty of your rustic furniture, apply 2-3 coats of either an oil or water based polyurethane. Satin, semi gloss or high gloss may be used. Be sure to sand lightly and remove all dust between coats. We found that the oil bases polyurethane gives the furniture a better finish, but it takes longer to dry. Our normal production and shipping time is 2 to 3 weeks.
